Al Gore Environmental News Conference Post-Nobel Peace Prize in Palo Alto
By: Yen Lee on 10 12, 2007
If you have not yet heard, Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize today!

Well, he happened to be in the SF Bay area at the time and a few Kangos got special access to his press conference today:

First his wife Tipper Gore spoke saying that Al would be coming into the room 2 minutes to give a brief statement and also that he would not be answering questions; when he arrived he was greeted by 100+ news-people.
Then he spoke briefly about the continuing effects of global warming on the polar ice caps: “polar scientists are now warning that at current rates the polar ice caps will be completely gone within only 27 years” (or language very similar, our Kango blogger was relying only on his memory)
Then Gore spoke passionately delivering a call in the form of an African proverb.

Gore said:
With that; he left the room and he went to a private meeting with members of the Alliance for Climate Protection.
…but can collectively make a huge difference.

Thanks Yen for the post - since I could not get inside (I was one of the lookie-loos outside), it is great to have an insiders view of what happened. It was exciting to see Al in person!
Yen: Nice post and good message! Al’s prize should put a lot of wind in the sails of those who advocate the “Man-Made Global Warming” position.
I favor “sustainable design” for its National Security implications, i.e., less money goes to Middle-Eastern oil producers. I also like sustainable design because it forces us to be innovative and come up with new approaches. Fear of a “Gloom and Doom” future does not motivate me at all.
I also enjoyed your post about “Flying Greener.” Good tips and advice. Do you think that when Al goes back to Nashville, he’ll be flying in a private jet or going commercially?
Good luck with this blog!
Gore’s statement that “polar ice caps will be completely gone within only 27 years” goes against a lot of evidence that the caps are actually growing in size. More junk science and hysteria.
Actually, Bob, the data’s pretty clear on the extent of sea ice on the North Pole. If you don’t believe the spin in the media, then check out the raw data for yourself.
The University of Illinois runs an Arctic Research Center that has compiled a graph of the extent of sea ice in the Arctic.
The trend is quite clear and quite alarming. In fact, it seems to be accelerating.
